Cameron Smith shot a three-under 67 to sit third going into final round of the FedEx tournament, with victory securing the world No 1 ranking for first time
Cameron Smith has a huge chance to win the opening PGA Tour FedEx Cup playoffs tournament and claim the world No 1 ranking, as he surges into the final round two shots from the lead.circuit, Australian world No 2 Smith birdied two of the last three holes to shoot a three-under 67 at the FedEx St Jude Championship in Memphis on Saturday.
“That’s been one of my goals probably since the start of the year is to try to get to that top spot,” Smith said. “Try and chase it down.” Spaun had a two-putt birdie on the par-five 16th and holed an 18-foot birdie putt on the next hole to claim the 54-hole lead a 13-under 197. Straka was right there with him until he failed to save par from the bunker on the 18th.
But there are a host of players in contention, with 16 within four shots of the lead, including stars Sam Burns and Tony Finau. But no one stands out like Smith, for so many reasons.

John Howard ‘out of step’ with mainstream Republicans over TrumpRecastled CEO Kosha Gada says former prime minister John Howard is “out of step” with mainstream Republicans over his opinion of former US president Donald Trump. Ms Gada said in certain circles, Mr Howard “is revered,” and high-profile Republican families such as the Bushes, the McCains and the Cheneys value his opinion “and share it”. “If you travel in other circles such as the tens of millions of people that supported Trump in ’16 and ’20 and still do today, including Trump personally, I don’t think they’re losing a lot of sleep over the viewpoint of a former Australian prime minister,” she told Sky News host Chris Smith. “With those people, (Trump)’s support is only rising, and they would actually disagree with the prime minister and say they viewed his presidency as a win on paper. “I think he’s out of step with where the mainstream Republican voter in America sits.”
