She won’t back down.”Less than a year after her father died from brain cancer, McKeown claimed gold medals in the 100m and 200m backstroke events at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
McKeown’s three gold medals at last year’s world championships in Japan was a momentous achievement that solidified the Queenslander’s standing as one of Australia’s greatest swimmers. With three golds to her name in Tokyo, another three in Paris could see McKeown leapfrog McKeon and Thorpe to set the all-time Australian Olympic record.
“We would have done similar kinds of training and sessions,” Rice says. “We’re quite similar athletes in the sense that we have big emotions. I’m sure Bohly is always sharing personal stories of things that happened .
