When compared to last year’s group, the Seahawks’ running backs room has a few key differences heading into 2022. For one, the bad neck injury that sidelined veteran lead backfor most of last season has forced him into retirement. That, in turn, has left Penny, a fifth-year back, as the clear RB1 in Seattle for at least this year. In addition, the Seahawks drafted a promising running back prospect in Walker in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Where Dallas and Homer fit in didn’t seem immediately clear. After strong preseasons from each of them and Walker’s injury possibly keeping him sidelined, the two backups could play a bigger part in the Seahawks’ offense. Even after Walker returns, either of them could still have a role as the season continues.
Of the two, Dallas seems to be in the better spot after the stronger preseason he had. He looked more capable of being an early-down back against the Dallas Cowboys with his 13 carries for 73 yards, all of which were on first or second down. Most of his biggest moments from the preseason came during its finale in Dallas including his accumulation of 56 total yards and a touchdown in a single, 75-yard scoring drive for Seattle.
