Trump’s promoting the “Make America Great Again” slogan speaks directly into that longing for greatness. This longing so great, especially for those consigned by life’s circumstances to struggle, that it obviates the foibles of the Fearless Leader. Ron DeSantis is finding that Tinkerbell is a less compelling Bond villain than Brezhnev or Andropov. Ramaswamy presents as the Leave It to Beaver’s Eddie Haskell.Meanwhile there is a schism in the Republican conference of the House. Some Party Regulars don’t trust that Jim Jordan, who echoed Trump’s aspersions on the integrity of the 2020 presidential election, will speak for them.
There’s nothing comparable being promoted now.
