Andrew Gillis' postgame Ohio State observations.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State earned its second Top 10 win of the season with a 20-12 win over Penn State at Ohio Stadium on Saturday.1. Kyle McCord says the offense is “close” — but how close do they need to get?“It’s small details,” McCord said postgame. “Whether that’s me, the O-line or the receivers, it’s the little things that can easily be cleaned up. Looking back on the film from Week 1, OK, I feel like there’s a lot to clean up.
In Top 10 games, Ohio State has allowed just 26 points to Notre Dame and Penn State. That’s remarkable...But the Buckeyes have also scored just 37 points in those games, too, albeit against top defensive competition. But, for now, the offense can steadily improve while the defense holds games for the Buckeyes, and especially against overmatched competition, it won’t be a tall task. The offense has time, but is running out of it, to figure out how to get better.Ohio State’s passing attack is certainly talented enough to take over a game. Its run defense is bad enough to sink one.
Granted, Ohio State was down TreVeyon Henderson, and has been since the Notre Dame game. When he’s on the field, he gives you an explosive element that no one else in the backfield does.
