‘Can’t do that’: Legend calls out Luai act
Origin legend Andrew Johns and Cameron Smith were left stunned after Jarome Luai put a huge hit on Queensland captain Daly Cherry-Evans that went unpunished in the Blues’ 38-18 thrashing of the Maroons on Wednesday night.
They began a set on the Blues goal line, but a wayward pass from hooker Harry Grant went over the head of Cherry-Evans. The replay went back to the Luai incident however, with Cameron Smith saying: “That’s a penalty every day of the week.”Another added: “Didn’t Luai just take DCE out?”But the knock-on stood and moments later the match erupted at the other end of the field when Luai’s former Panthers teammate Stephen Crichton put Cherry-Evans in a headlock. In the thick of things was of course Luai, holding both Reece Walsh and Cherry-Evans at the same time with a giant smile on his face.
While Moses had a record-equalling four try assists, two line break assists, 23 tackles and did the lion’s share of the kicking, Luai took a back seat.
