Ted Rutledge, a Canadian sailor, experienced a dramatic rescue after his catamaran, the Stet, began sinking in the Indian Ocean. While sailing from Darwin to Christmas Island, the boat took on water rapidly, forcing Rutledge to abandon ship for his dinghy.
His brother, Kelly Thomas, raised the alarm from Canada when updates ceased. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) coordinated a search, locating Rutledge via a Challenger jet. HMAS Supply then dispatched a Seahawk helicopter to retrieve him, providing a successful and well-equipped rescue that restored Rutledge's faith in the maritime community's capabilities.
