A series of fast-moving fires and bad conditions has left potentially half of the mountain town damaged by wildfires that are still burning.
The town of Jasper in the Canadian Rockies has been surrounded on multiple fronts by wildfires burning out of control.
Mayor Richard Ireland said in a letter on the town's website that the wildfire "ravaged our beloved community". They said the most significant structural damage was concentrated on the west side of town. Some bridges around town and throughout the park were damaged. An editorial on the town's independent news site, the Jasper Local, was headlined "We never imagined this".
