Federal Minister for Resources Matt Canavan has assured Australians the government is "taking action to deliver more water to farmers and to provide assistance and relief where we can during this terrible drought”. The Morrison government promised to look into its Murray Darling Basin policies, after frustrated farmers took to Parliament House in protest on Tuesday.
Mr Canavan told Sky News last month’s $1 billion funding announcement to build dams in the Murray-Darling Basin would “help store more water during good times, to store for the bad times”. Mr Canavan said there was "nothing we can do to directly make it rain, however the Adelaide Desalination plant “will deliver 100 gigalitres of extra water over the next couple of years to farmers”.
