The Canberra Liberals have released their housing policy ahead of next month's ACT election, with a plan to build 125,000 new homes by 2050.
In releasing their housing policy ahead of next month's territory election, the Liberals say they want to deliver 125,000 homes to the ACT by 2050. "We need to find that balance and that means there is going to be new development, and as we have outlined Kowen pine plantation which is where we have indicated would be under a Canberra Liberals government, a new town centre and district."But the practicalities of that plan have been questioned by the Civil Contractors Federation Australia , who say building a new suburb "in the middle of nowhere" would be challenging.
"An accelerated release of land will help alleviate supply issues imposed by the Labor-Greens government, make housing more affordable and increase choice for the type of home Canberrans want to live in," Ms Lee said. Mr Steel said Labor would deliver 30,000 new homes, through a mixture of development on greenfield sites and within the existing suburbs, including the development of more townhouses, duplexes and rowhouses.
