A Canberra man invited home to drink alcohol and take drugs by a couple he'd befriended at the shops, is sentenced to more than 13 years behind bars, after he tried to kill one of his hosts.

He was also charged with intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm, after an attack in Canberra's jail. Donohue said he thought the man had called him a dog, and had snitched to prison guards, when he went into the next door cell saying "I'm not going to let you go"."For somebody so young, the evidence indicates that the offender has a dangerous propensity to resort to violence," Justice Mossop said.
