Jen Arnold knew her partner Steven wanted his organs donated in the event of a tragedy, because they discussed it before he died in a car accident. She says more people should discuss their donation status this DonateLife week.
DonateLife is urging more people to follow their lead, with only 36 per cent of Australians on the Organ Donor Register , including 27 per cent in the ACT .DonateLife is calling on people to check their status, have discussions with their loved ones, and sign up to the ODR.
"He'd had another quite significant cycling accident at the time — and it wasn't life threatening, as it turns out, but it was a good prompt for us to have that conversation." During this year's DonateLife Week, Ms Arnold is calling on people in the ACT and around the country to discuss organ donation with their family, and get themselves on the Organ Donor Register .
Ms Burkolter said while ideas like that should be explored in the ACT in order to boost donor numbers, they needed to be backed up by large information campaigns to halt misinformation about organ donation.
