We chat with Blindspotting star Candace Nicholas-Lippman (Candacethepoet) about Janelle's story in upcoming episodes of season 2 story and how she uses her voice on set:

Blindspotting has grown from a cult hit in 2018 to a critically acclaimed STARZ series, and its second season is now in full swing. The original film centered on Collin who had recently been released from prison, and how he made it through his parole alongside his best friend Miles . The pair wrote the film together, but the series now focuses instead on Miles' wife Ashley after he goes to prison.

Candace Nicholas-Lippman: All I can say is the dynamic has shifted; things have changed. And I believe that the audience will be very surprised. That's all! I feel that in season 2, we kind of pick up with her still trying to navigate that. But she's still very mysterious about it, which I also find to be very exciting. You're still like, "What is going on with Janelle?" But if you keep watching, you're going to be thoroughly surprised. I promise you, so just keep watching.

And then for season 2 — again, it's so hard, because we can't really give anything away — I love episode 4. All of us in the nun costumes was really, really fun to shoot. And it was also kind of paying homage to episode 5, because we were freezing there. We were filming at three in the morning, but we all had to support each other because we were all in it together. Late night, but it was fun.

For example, in season 1, episode 6, when I'm wearing the head wrapping. That was a choice, where I asked. If she's just hanging out in the house, in real life, black women have our hair wrapped or something like that if we're just casually lounging around the house. So, yes, for sure.
