Canelo Alvarez has been honoured in his home country of Mexico with a statue in the municipality of Juanacatlan.
The super middleweight is in the thick of his Hall of Fame career having turned professional in 2005 and has an incredible record of 58 wins with two losses and two draws.The Mexican boxing legend has won world championships at 154, 160, 168, and 175 pounds, showing his quality and versatility in the ring.
“It is a great honor for me to be recognized in the place that saw me grow and made me the person I am today,” Alvarez wrote in an Instagram post about the revealing of the statue. “Thanks to the government of Juanacatlán for this recognition and to all the people who attended.”“I’m proud of being here, with all the people that made this possible, to build a statue in my honor. I’m proud, and it’s proof that dreams come true,” said Alvarez.
Alvarez is currently out of action due to a wrist surgery but hopes to be back in May and there may be a fight against British boxer John Ryder on the cards next year.
