Already a subscriber?Melbourne’s CORE Markets, a carbon trading platform that wants to compete with Blackstone-backed Xpansiv, has launched a capital raise to expand into Asia. This marks the first time the company has sought external capital since its founding in 2019. Sources said CORE had received a good amount of interest from family offices, strategic investors, impact funds and mid-size private equity types, both local and international.
CORE Markets was formed in 2022 through Renewable Energy Hub’s acquisition of TFS Green APAC. CORE started life as a start-up inside Singapore-based Tradition, the broking arm of Swiss headquartered Compagnie Financiere Tradition. Tradition still retains a stake in CORE. . It recently also launched a research and insights division. Its clients, which number around 500, include large corporations, institutional investing giants Snowy Hydro, IFM Investors and QIC, and carbon and clean energy project developers.CORE Markets has pitched the raise as part of its Asia expansion efforts as it seeks to put offices in Singapore and Korea. The 50-person company already has offices in London. It hopes to double that over the next year and hit 200 staff by 2026.
