The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, an essential link on Interstate-695, has collapsed.
The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore in the US has collapsed after it was struck by a large ship in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Divers and rescue teams are working in frigid conditions after several vehicles including a large tractor-trailer have been reported to have fallen into the Patapsco River.
Video of the incident on social media shows a large boat heading straight toward one of the bridge’s support columns and colliding with it. This sent a massive stretch of the bridge crashing into the water and also triggered a collapse of adjacent sections of the bridge. Preliminary reports suggest that the vessel has a Singapore flag. It does not necessarily mean it belongs to the country.
Temperatures at the Baltimore Harbor are currently around 48 degrees Fahrenheit as per the US National Data Buoy Center. Hypothermia sets in when temperatures drop under 95 Fahrenheit . Authorities have classified the incident as a “mass casualty” event, something that is not done unless it is an extremely serious event.Bronze Age graves hint at existence of mythical warrior women of Greece
