Four-time grand slam champion Carlos Alcaraz has crashed out of the US Open after a shock loss to Botic Van de Zandschulp in the second round on Friday . Alcaraz, the third seed and 2022 champion, was well below his best as the Dutchman dominated from the start and held his nerve at the end to wrap up the 6-1, 7-5, 6-4 victory. The second-round exit is Alcaraz’s worst ever performance at Flushing Meadows and equals his worst ever showing at a grand slam. Van de Zandschulp, 28, is ranked No.
” In the early goings Michelsen proved up for the challenge as he twice came back from a break down in the first set, but after Sinner broke a third time for a 5-4 lead he closed out the frame on serve. Sinner found another gear in the second set and had a much easier time as he raced out to a 3-0 double-break lead to seize control and never looked back as Michelsen’s serve suddenly abandoned him and his unforced errors started to pile up as he won two of the last 14 games.
