Giants win two of three games in the series, stalling the Braves’ bid to take over first place in the N.L. East from the New York Mets
SAN FRANCISCO — Carlos Rodón struck out eight and allowed one unearned run, and Austin Wynns drove in three runs with a pair of two-out singles as the Giants beat the Atlanta Braves 4-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Oracle Park.
The Giants have won four of five heading into their weekend series against the Dodgers, which starts Friday. Rodón allowed two hits and walked one in lowering his ERA to 2.84, moving ahead of teammate Logan Webb for the sixth-lowest ERA in the league. Rodón won for the first time since August 23 despite allowing seven earned runs over his previous three starts. With the eight strikeouts, Rodón moved into second in the majors with 220 strikeouts, behind only New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole .“It’s just something I’ve been dealing with all year,” Rodón said.
Giants manager Gabe Kapler said, “We felt like where we were in the season, it was the right decision to get him out of there. I don’t anticipate but we’re going to be cautious with Carlos and talk to him tomorrow and see how he’s feeling and go from there.”The top four hitters in the Braves lineup — Ronald Acuna Jr., Darby Swanson, Austin Riley and Matt Olson were a combined 0-for-16 and struck out seven times.
