Carlton’s dominant five-match winning streak has been ended and their bid to seal a top-two spot shaken after imploding against the GWS Giants on Saturday night. The Blues, led by explosive captain Patrick Cripps, raced out of the blocks and were ahead by 39 points late in the first quarter. But it was one-way traffic for the next two terms as a remarkable 75-point turnaround gave the Giants a lead of 36 points before three-quarter time.

Cripps had earlier put Carlton on his back, kicking his first goal in the opening term and another in the second quarter to stop a run of five GWS goals. The Blues skipper finished with 33 touches and — most impressively — 11 clearances in a show of force. Harry McKay kicked the first three goals of the night and went on to match Hogan with five but Charlie Curnow was blanketed by Jack Buckley.
