Sam Greenwood bagged his first Middlesbrough goal on Saturday against Sunderland
Michael Carrick hopes Sam Greenwood’s first goal in Middlesbrough colours will be able to help him kick on and take the next step in his career at the Riverside Stadium. Greenwood, who joined Middlesbrough on loan from Leeds United in the summer, has had a bit part role to play so far this season, stepping off the bench to make his first four appearances for the Teesside outfit.
Of course, Greenwood will be looking to build on such a performance by finding the form required to make a place in the starting XI his own and Carrick believes the effort in Sunderland could be the catalyst for him."It’s not an easy one for Sam, and I was conscious of that coming into the game,” Carrick said, as per Teesside Live. “We know his background and with his family and friends being Sunderland fans, and that’s the first time he’s played here as well.
"It will be a big one for him as well, to get his first goal in a big game like this. And for the performance he gave, it should definitely be a massive boost for him moving forward."
