Brittany Higgins’ former employer, Senator Michaelia Cash, has accused Labor of “weaponising a rape allegation” as she called on Anthony Albanese to 'come clean' on his party’s involvement.

Sky News Australia’s Sharri Markson has obtained text exchanges between Ms Higgins and her partner David Sharaz as well as the audio of the five-hour long meeting between the pair, Ms Wilkinson and her producer ahead of The Project interview in February 2021.

“What you have now more and more coming out every single day I that there appears to have been collusion with senior members of the Labor Party with the media,” Ms Cash told Sky News Australia’s Andrew Clennell on Sunday.“Mr Albanese as the Prime Minister of Australia, he now needs to stand before the Australian people and provide a complete explanation.”

Ms Gallagher fired back and said: “No one had any knowledge, how dare you, it’s all about protecting yourself”. But on Saturday, the Finance Minister broke her silence and admitted to having knowledge of the allegations before they were aired publicly but denied any wrongdoing. "I was responding to an assertion made by Minister Reynolds that we had known about this for weeks and had made a decision to weaponise it," the Minister said.On Sunday, Ms Cash said the Labor Senator’s explanation was “flimsy” and said there was “absolutely” no distinction between knowing four days or two weeks prior.

“Day after day you see more and more evidence which actually contradicts the statements being made by minister Gallagher to the Australian people and the Australian Senate.”

Labor MPs’ alleged involvement in ‘weaponising’ Higgins case ‘terrifying’Labor MPs’ alleged involvement in ‘weaponising’ Higgins case ‘terrifying’Revelations this week regarding the alleged involvement of members of the then opposition in the political weaponisation of the alleged rape of Brittany Higgins is “terrifying”, says Sky News host Erin Molan. “Not just because of what it does to the already pretty sullied reputation of politics, but because of the significant damage done to real people,” Ms Molan said. “To use an alleged sexual assault is on a whole different level – it's a dirty game, politics, that's at the best of times. 'But I reckon if what's being alleged over the past few days has occurred, then we've reached a new low.'
