Business owners say they are 'shocked' by decision that will ban them from hosting customers outside

A swanky city centre venue has been stripped of its licence to have seating outside after a number of complaints.

Castle Street was identified by the council under its 'Liverpool Without Walls' programme as one key area of the city where fast-tracked pavement licenses would be required to allow for socially distanced eating and drinking during the Covid-19 pandemic, with the street largely closed off to cars to allow for this. The changes in the area proved popular and have remained in place ever since - with the council now working on new plans to extend the pedestrianisation and make it permanent.

“Most of the businesses have been happy to comply, and we are grateful for their cooperation. Unfortunately, Castle Street Townhouse has not been willing to reach a compromise despite receiving a final warning, so we have now served them with a notice revoking their licence with immediate effect.” "A legitimate application was then made for a pavement café licence under the Business and Planning Act when the Without Walls scheme was terminated.
