Emily Benton said her mother discovered their rescue cat, named Herbie, in a dire state at the back door of their house in Walsall in Birmingham, U.K.
She rushed Herbie to the vet, where the family were stunned to discover what had caused Herbie's injury. The vet said they were unable to remove the pellet during surgery as it is too close to Herbie's brain—and the family were left with a bill for $900 .page set up to raise funds to cover the cost of the bill, Benton said she believed the culprit must have"hung out of their top floor window" to shoot Herbie right between the eyes.
Herbie the cat lost an eye after his owner said someone deliberately shot him in the face with a pellet."When she saw him properly, up close she screamed and practically sobbed. His left eye was protruding from his face, dilating, it wasn't following any movements with the other eye, and as more time passed, it seemed to swell, and hang out of his face more...
She added that she set up the fundraising page because the family had used up the money set aside for Christmas to pay the vet bill."We knew straight away that we were paying it, there is no way we couldn't save [our] poor boy, but that was all the money that was left for Christmas," she wrote.
