during his appearance before the House of Representatives’ economics committee on Thursday is not about CBA.Rather, Comyn asks us – politicians, the media, the business community and society more broadly – to consider whether the proliferation of demonstrably false claims in our public discourse are damaging trust in public institutions and making it even harder to address the policy and prosperity problems we endlessly diagnose, but never seem to solve.
It’s CBA, for example, that has gently raised the spectre of growing generational inequality in Australia – and put hard data behind it. No business should be immune to criticism, and goodness knows it’s been warranted in recent years given the unacceptable scandals in the banks, the casinos, Qantas and PwC.
