LOS GATOS — For the first time in the history of the Central Coast Section Open Division girls basketball playoffs, which dates to 2013, two public schools met up in the opening round Friday when No. 5 seed Branham played at No. 4 Los Gatos.

Los Gatos , which had a 16-game winning streak broken, played without sophomore post Nicole Steiner, who averages 20.4 points and 13.9 rebounds per game on the season. Steiner was taking part in a volleyball tournament in Kansas City and will also miss Los Gatos’ game with Crystal Springs Uplands on Monday.

Ella Rabitz led Los Gatos with 15 points. Ten of her points came during the third quarter, including her third 3-pointer of the game in the final minute of the quarter to give the Wildcats a 34-32 lead. Von Borloeven’s basket at the buzzer brought Branham even.
