The former home of the All Things Bright and Beautiful hymn writer has been up for sale for years.
The County Tyrone home of one the Victorian era's most famous hymn writers "is under grave threat", campaigners have said.
The authority confirmed to BBC News NI that the council had been in contact regarding the sale, adding that "any decisions on the future use of the site would be a matter for the successful buyer". "We don't have a great heritage or history meeting point in Strabane and this could be it," he added. "We have great community and political support for a heritage site to celebrate the history here. Cecil was a beacon for the community. Let the site do the same thing."
"Members also agreed for council officers to work with organisations and other partners to try to keep this site for the benefit of the local community in Strabane," the spokesperson added.Ulster Unionist Party councillor Derek Hussey said: "Work has been done with local sports clubs and conservation groups to put together a community project for the Education Authority.
