Carlton Williams, 35, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after barricading himself inside an apartment when authorities tried to take him into custody,...

Police said that 30 minutes later, crisis negotiators communicated with him and tried to resolve the situation peacefully. But police said that as negotiations continued, Williams became more erratic and “made statements indicating that he would kill anyone who came to the front door.”

At about 9:40 p.m., Frisco police put “chemical agents” into the apartment and used a “controlled explosive” to breach a bedroom door. Willis thanked the Texas Department of Public Safety and Frisco police for their “dogged pursuit of this dangerous fugitive” and said their “relentless efforts and professional approach” kept citizens safe.

When Williams failed to appear at the trial, Judge Faith Johnson issued a warrant for his arrest and authorities with the Texas Department of Public Safety began searching for him, the DA’s office said. When the victim stopped at a red light in Plano, Williams got out of the truck and banged on the driver’s window before retrieving a machete. Williams threatened the victim’s life while slashing their tires before fleeing when the light turned green, authorities said.
