After 14 days of quarantine in the Christmas Island detention facility, citizens evacuated from the Chinese province of Hubei have finally come home.

Student Vivian said after so much time alone, she couldn't wait to see her family and give them a hug.One evacuee Lily described the experience as surreal, but said she made the most of her time in quarantine by teaching her son as well as making friends.

The couple admitted to having a"really good" time in quarantine, Ms Huang in particular paid homage to the staff at the facility and the sense of community and friendship that was created. "It was actually really good, we had limited access to internet, but that brings people closer together – we were just chatting, we played cards," she said.

The Athaydes family say the first thing they're going to do tomorrow is go out for yum cha."We've made a new family, life-long friends." Similar words being said across the board here, the comraderie is quite wonderful.
