A vintage electric train with a restored carriage from the Sydney Harbour Bridge's 1932 opening was a feature of the icon's 90th birthday celebrations on Saturday.
The bridge, which was opened on March 19, 1932, provided the city with a vital transport link across the harbour and a landmark that is instantly recognisable around the world.
"Now, after all these years, our bridge is as resolute as ever. It transcends the decades and remains a vital transport link, keeping our communities connected." Celebrations on Saturday to mark the milestone include vintage train and bus rides, as well as projections on the bridge pylons showcasing its history.
There are currently two flagpoles on the bridge for the national and state flags, with the Aboriginal flag replacing the NSW flag for just 19 days of the year. The bridge was designed by engineer John Bradfield, who has been described as"the greatest visionary for NSW and Australia".
