Kyogo Furuhashi, Nicolas Kuhn and James Forrest sealed the win for the champions at Parkhead
Saints battled from the first minute to the last, but the champions' quality shone through as they bounced back from a 2-0 defeat at Hearts.
If there are no points to gain at the Old Firm, then some positives will need to be found to take into the final games of the season for St Johnstone. Two early crunching tackles by captain Liam Gordon had a clear message: Saints were not here to just make up the numbers. Celtic then had a clear chance to take the lead a few minutes later. But Kyogo, under pressure by Ryan McGowan, chipped the ball over both Mitov and the crossbar.
Kyogo nearly had his second but could not convert from a low Alistair Johnston cross. He had a second header ruled out for offside shortly after. But within a minute of the restart it was 2-0 as the Saints defence went missing. Kyogo this time turned provider, teeing up Kuhn for a tap in.Hoops substitute James Forrest made sure of the points with a third goal on 68 minutes. The winger had plenty space and time in the box to fire into the corner after he was picked out by O’Riley.
