Frank McGarvey died from the disease and now daughter Jenny is part of a campaign to tackle the low survival rates of Glasgow's east end.
The daughter of Celtic legend Frank McGarvey is taking the fight to beat pancreatic cancer to her father’s footballing heartland where survival rates are Scotland’s lowest.
In his final game for Celtic, he scored the winning goal six minutes from the end of the 1985 Scottish Cup Final. Jenny, who is mum to Jessica, five, Antonia, three, and one-year-old Francesca, named after her dad, said: “My dad had been fit all his life. He was a big, strong guy. The day the doctors told him he had cancer was a total shock to us all.
More than 900 people in Scotland are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer every year, with around 26 people a day dying from it. Research shows fewer than six per cent of patients in Scotland surviving five years after their diagnosis.
