Three-week operation by troops from Niger and Nigeria targeted area that has become a bolthole for Boko Haram and Isis-linked militants
In a statement, the multinational joint task force , bringing together troops from those four countries, said it had conducted a three-week sweep on Nigeria’s side of the border.
The troops also discovered and destroyed “artillery emplacements” pointing towards the south-eastern Niger city of Diffa. The first phase of the operation unfolded in the Malam Fatori area, and the second in the areas of Arege, Gashiger, Asaga and Kamagunma, the taskforce said.
