The Australian’s economics editor Adam Creighton says it’s “extremely hard to forecast” the link between the environment and the economy. The International Monetary Fund have suggested the Reserve Bank of Australia purchase Australia’s privately-owned coal mines and coal fire power plants in order to avoid an economic crisis caused by climate change.
Mr Creighton told Sky News host Peta Credlin the suggestion central banks should buy these assets is “pretty absurd”, and said “international bureaucracies” like the IMF “have so many staff they need to have something to write about”. The Australian reported on Wednesday a significant fall in renewable investment over the last year will put significant pressure on the power grid.
