Central Pa. television anchor named communications director for City of Harrisburg
Former Fox 43 news anchor Matt Maisel is the new communications director for Mayor Wanda Williams administration in Harrisburg.Harrisburg Mayor Wanda Williams has hired a new communications director for the city of Harrisburg, and it’s someone who already knows the territory pretty well.
In addition to pushing out city news and announcements and managing the city’s public access cable television channel, its Website and social media accounts, Maisel is also expected to be the first point of contact with the media for Williams’ office and all other city departments for interview requests, policy questions and the like. Maisel’s starting salary in the new post is $90,000.
He said he is especially interested in building up some of the city’s existing communications outlets, like WHBG, which currently operates as a sort of in-house C-SPAN for city meetings, press conferences and public events. A Susquehanna Township High School graduate, Maisel comes to the city after a 15-year in broadcast journalism, the last seven of which he spent with York-headquartered Fox 43. Starting as a member of the station’s sports coverage team, Maisel moved into general news coverage and co-anchored the morning news program from 2017 through 2021.
