The casino group has confirmed its chief executive officer Robbie Cooke and chief financial officer Christina Katsibouba have both resigned.
Star Entertainment Group’s chief executive officer Robbie Cooke has officially stepped down after deeming it unlikely the company’s flagship Pyrmont casino would ever retain its coveted casino licence from the NSW regulator while he was at the helm.
“I have reached the conclusion that my continuation in the group chief executive role will not be conducive... In these circumstances, a change in leadership provides the best opportunity for the business to navigate the regulatory pressure it is facing,” he said on Friday. Star Entertainment Group had faced pressure from investors and the NSW regulator to replace all executives who had senior roles before it was disgraced.Neale O’Connell will join as interim group chief financial officer from next week. O’Connell has held stints as the global chief financial officer of Corporate Travel Management and Tatts, where he oversaw the merger between Tatts and Tabcorp.“ Katsibouba has decided to leave to pursue other interests.
The group’s market value has halved since the first inquiry into the business in 2022, led by barrister Adam Bell, SC, which determined that The Star was unsuitable to hold its NSW casino licence after itthat led to money-laundering, criminal infiltration and large-scale fraud.
