Crowds gathered Saturday for the 26th annual César E. Chávez March for Justice on Guadalupe Street in San Antonio. The march through downtown resumed after a two-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.People from all walks of life will march Saturday in honor of Latino and farm labor leader César E. Chávez.
Chávez’s granddaughter Julie Chávez Rodriguez is expected to attend. Chávez Rodriguez serves as senior advisor to President Joe Biden.This is the 27th year of the César E. Chávez March for Justice. It starts on the West Side at 1310 Guadalupe, the intersection of Guadalupe and Brazos streets, by the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center and travels to downtown San Antonio. The theme is “Finding True Life through Service to Others.
The commemorative morning program will start with speakers on stage at 9 a.m. Councilwoman Rosie Castro and her sons, former Mayor Julián Castro and U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro, will serve as the family grand marshals. Participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for drop-off in bins from the “Yes We Can/Sí Se Puede” campaign. Donations benefit the San Antonio Food Bank.
