John Wick: Chapter 4 has been a huge success, and its practical and stunt-heavy approach to action shows where the genre's future lies.
Despite advancements in computer animation, CGI simply isn't the future of action movies, as is proven by John Wick: Chapter 4. Since its inception, big-budget movies have become more and more reliant on CGI. CGI does have its benefits, with many stories not being possible without its implementation. However, more recent action movies have had a problem with CGI, something that John Wick: Chapter 4 proves can be avoided.

One of the most notable examples of CGI hurting action movies can be seen in the Indiana Jones movies. The original Indiana Jones films were known for their rough shooting style and dangerous stunts. However, 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull featured lots of big CGI set pieces, with the film's action feeling notably less real because of it. This same trend can be seen in The Expendables 3, Jurassic World, Catwoman, and even The Mummy series.
