Ahead of the government’s jobs summit in Canberra, Treasurer Jim Chalmers says skilled migration can’t be a substitute for training.
The Business Council of Australia has called for the government to reconsider the nation’s permanent migration cap to address workplace shortages.
Ahead of the government’s Jobs and Skills Summit next week, Mr Chalmers said Australia faces big challenges in addressing shortages. The summit has been politically contentious with Opposition Leader Peter Dutton and federal Liberals refusing to attend on the basis it is"a stunt with the unions".
