Treasurer Jim Chalmers has distanced Labor from the ACTU’s calls for a radical overhaul of how the economy is structured ahead of the jobs summit.

“But we welcome a discussion about the priorities of unions and businesses and others in the lead up to the summit.“The whole point of having a summit like this is to bring people together to see if there can be common ground.” “A lot of the suggestions made by the ACTU are not government policies. But it would be pretty strange if we said come along to a summit and only bring along ideas which have been pre-approved by the government. That’s not the spirit of the summit.”Dr Chalmers declined to echo shadow treasurer Angus Taylor’s claims the ACTU’s proposals would amount to a wrecking ball through the economy.
