The incoming Treasurer insists the Albanese Government will not need to strengthen its policies on climate change and ruled out making a deal to form government with teal independents or the Greens.

Voters ditched traditional Liberal values and backed a wave of female teal contenders to help boot out blue-ribbon candidates from electorates around the country.

Mr Chalmers was questioned by Sky News Australia host Peter Stefanovic on whether Labor will make a deal to secure a majority government with the teal independents if it was not able to get the majority of 76 seats on their own."And the Greens? That still stands?" Stefanovic quickly added. Labor committed in the six-week Federal Election campaign to net zero emissions by 2050 and a 43 per cent cut of emissions by 2030."Clearly there is an appetite in the Australian community for responsible action on climate change so we can get that cleaner and cheaper energy into the system and boost investment and create jobs, particularly in the regions.

Mr Chalmers stressed there are lessons to be taken away from the election for all parties with the rise of teal independents, who are focusing on tackling climate change.
