Treasurer Jim Chalmers has signalled his interest in shaking up the business-dominated RBA board to ensure its diversity is representative of industries, workers, geography and gender.

“There’s still more than a year between now and Phil’s appointment coming up and the Reserve Bank review will report between now and then,” Dr Chalmers told the ABC Insiders program on Sunday. One potential contender mentioned by close RBA watchers is David Gruen, currently head of the Australian Bureau of Statistics and a former RBA and Treasury economist.
“You think about the point that Sally McManus is making is an uncontroversial one and that’s that wages growth right now is nowhere near three and a half percent and nowhere near headline inflation.
