The otherworldly display of lights could be visible tonight.
Scots could be treated to the Northern Lights tonight after a geomagnetic storm hit the Earth's atmosphere early today.
The Met Office reports that the Northern Lights may be visible all the way down to Northern Ireland, northern England and similar latitudes. That means Scots could bear witness to the latest celestial event if the weather prevails. "A Coronal Mass Ejection is likely to arrive early on 24 July, giving a peak chance of Strong Geomagnetic Storm conditions," reads the Met Office's Space Weather forecast.
The best conditions to see the Northern Lights are under dark, clear skies. Scotland's light-filled summer evenings and wet, cloudy weather may obstruct views of the amazing phenomenon.
