Premier Mark McGowan said Western Australians should feel confident the sate is 'ready to safely transition its border controls' with a reopening date announcement expected over the weekend.
The state is closing in on the 80 per cent double-dose target which will see Premier Mark McGowan set the reopening date based on when Western Australia is expected to have 90 per cent of residents aged 12 and over fully vaccinated."In coming days when we reach our 80 per cent double dose rate for 12 years and above, we will be in a position to finalise the implementation date of our Safe Transition Plan," Mr McGowan said on Friday afternoon.
Mr McGowan joined with other state and territory leaders and Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Friday for the last National Cabinet meeting of the year where they were briefed by health officials on the Omicron variant. "The initial information suggests that while the new variant is more transmissible, it is potentially less severe. This is good news."
"When you are contacted by WA Health to let you know that you can book in – you should do so straight away. It will mean you have the best protection possible from the new variant." "There are a few things that will change when that happens, because it means we will inevitably have COVID in the community.
