Channel 4's Gender Wars fails both women and trans people – while missing the real story ✒️ PatrickStrud via ipaperviews
. Last week, bomb threats were made to several branches of the American retailer Target in Utah, in reaction to the store producing merchandise to celebrate LGBTQ pride. According to local reports the threat was made “citing the LGBTQ products controversy”. This is an escalation of the ongoing Bud Lite backlash, when the beer brand hired, a trans influencer, to promote it, prompting a mass boycott and an outpouring of anti-trans vitriol.
The Republican Party, meanwhile, is celebrating the end of Roe v Wade while implementing dozens of laws against trans people that are so brutal as to befit only authoritarian regimes. To pick just one, Florida governor and US Presidential hopefulthat allows trans kids to be taken from their families and put into state care if they’re receiving any kind of gender-affirming treatment. Elsewhere in the US, medical care for trans people is being shut down.
There is no context, no depth attempted. Instead, a rehash of an idea that a war exists with transgender people on one side and feminists on the other.In fact, the majority of women – and at higher levels than men – support the rights of transgender people, social attitudes surveys show us., is a proponent of trans rights.
