Channel 7 star Emma Freedman has toasted her family’s Melbourne Cup triumph in epic celebrations on Tuesday night. Without A Fight achieved the rare Caulfield-Melbourne double as jockey Mark Zahra went back-to-back in the biggest race of all after last year’s victory aboard Gold Trip. But for the Freedman family it had been a much longer wait to win the Melbourne Cup.
“It’s a little bit subdued but it is still an amazing feeling, and with the lead-up, having to choose between two horses - last year’s winner and another horse - a lot of gratification as I went across the line,” he added. “It was a very hard decision. I am a little bit emotionally attached to Gold Trip. When you win a Melbourne Cup on a horse, especially your first Melbourne Cup, that horse takes a place in your heart for the rest of your life.
