The Rail, Tram and Bus Union (RTBU) has threatened to impose a fresh round of industrial action on the tracks if the government fails to meet new demands to compensate commuters for the chaos they endured in January.
Rail, Tram and Bus Unions threaten government with two fresh weeks of industrial action if demands for 'free fare day' not met as negotiations continue
Unless the demands are met, industrial action is set to take place from as early as next week with trains planning to drive 23km/hr slower than the posted speed limit on sections of track that are 80km/h or higher. “We’ve done everything possible to ensure that the dispute over the new enterprise agreement doesn’t impact commuters, but unfortunately the NSW Government has deliberately caused dramas on our rail lines in an attempt to gain some sort of perceived political advantage.
All industrial action came to a halt two weeks ago when Premier Chris Minns put forward a 424 application at the Fair Work Commission to force the union into arbitration. A NSW government spokesperson said the RTBU had made “binding undertakings to the Fair Work Commission relating to industrial action”.As negotiations over pay disputes continue, RTBU said it had been well over 60 days since the NSW government sat down and negotiated with rail workers.
