Charged up: Labor favours marginal seats in community battery pitch | CroweDM

But Labor declared it would not take “lectures” from Prime Minister Scott Morrison about its spending when the Auditor-General hadfor favouring Coalition and marginal seats with cash for sporting facilities and car parks.

The battery program was launched last year and could pay for 400 batteries over time, giving Labor the capacity to announce many more sites in Coalition seats before the election while opening the scheme to applications from all communities if it forms government. Labor energy spokesman Chris Bowen said the party had only announced 6 per cent of the 400 community batteries it planned to deliver across the country if it formed government.

Finance Minister Simon Birmingham said the Labor spending showed voters should not believe Mr Albanese when he complained about government spending. The promises include $119.6 million for Pure Battery Technologies to build a material refinery hub in the Kalgoorlie region in the Liberal seat of O’Connor, along with $49 million for a project led by Australian Vanadium to process minerals from its Meekatharra mine, in the Liberal seat of Durack.
