She was 96.
"I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world," the king continued."During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held."and first formal appearance as the head of the commonwealth is not yet scheduled.
Charles Philip Arthur George, the son of the queen and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, was born on Nov. 14, 1948, in Buckingham Palace. The prince’s mother was proclaimed queen at age 25 when her father, King George VI, died in 1952 at age 56. On the queen’s accession to the throne, Prince Charles, as the sovereign’s eldest son, became heir to the British throne.
