For the Sydney maker and designer of the Diamond Jubilee State Coach that will carry King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla to the coronation this Saturday, it is a labour of love.
But outstanding craftsman Jim Frecklington, who has built two carriages for the monarchy, is about to face the biggest challenge of his life.James Brickwood
His former wife Joan Frecklington in Dubbo said the new coach was also for King Charles. “He is desperately trying to finish it; he just wants to get it made,” she said. The Diamond Jubilee State Coach for Queen Elizabeth II was a private initiative. Although completed in 2010, the coach did not arrive in London until March 2014 due to issues with transportation funding. Frecklington received a grant of $245,000 from the Howard government and mortgaged his house to help finance the project.
