At 76, Charlotte Rampling looks cooler than ever.
Charlotte Rampling first made her name as a model. A face of the Swinging Sixties, her lustrous hair and bewitching gaze made her a favourite of Helmut Newton, Yves Saint Laurent and more. Despite going on to carve out a career as an acclaimed actor, it seems Rampling – who is now 76 – still has an innate flair for modelling, as illustrated when she closed the AMI menswear show in Paris on Thursday.
Worn in a deep side parting, her pixie crop was the perfect style to frame her cheekbones and face shape. Neatly brushed, with few flyaways, the style was cut to feel soft and flattering, rather than sharp or directional. It didn’t shout, and felt effortlessly Rampling. Also notable was her salt-and-pepper hair colour. While many automatically assume that going grey will make them look washed-out or older, Rampling – like others including Andie MacDowell and Jodie Foster – looks radiant with health. If anything, hers is a perfect example of a grey hairstyle that flatters and warms up its owner’s complexion.
We could all take a few leaves out of Rampling’s book. From the minimal make-up to the low-maintenance hairstyle to that mannish suit – it’s all just so, well, cool. Here’s to looking next-level good in your seventies.
